As a healthcare professional that holds the quality of eye-care close to heart, we have become a part of several NPO’s and clubs in the surrounding communities to ensure that people are getting quality eye care services.

We are involved with the Save house for woman and children in Stellenbosch to assist with free tests and spectacles if needed.
We are also involved with Aitsa Aftercare that is a NPO who helps to improve the lives of underprivileged children in the area and Pebbles project that is also an NPO that helps to improve the lives of farm children by assisting with free screenings and eye tests and free spectacles to children that needs it. Media Release: Vision for the future: Eye test for youngsters in Stellenbosch
Van Neel Optometrist has been involved with various projects to test school children and provide spectacles at no charge since 2013. She understands the importance of eyesight for young children: “Lots of children sit in classes and they cannot see. They cannot always communicate well enough with their teachers and parents to explain what they cannot see or not see well enough, so they struggle at school. We focus on children are in the lower income group that don’t have the opportunity to see an optometrist to test their eyes.”
Cloetesville Primary
Van Neel Optometrist, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch, has started their 2019 outreach initiative program at the Cloetesville Primary in Stellenbosch. The program includes eye screening and examination for learners who were identified as having trouble with their eyesight.
We have screened 127 children at Cloetesville Primary school
Rietenbosch Primary
Van Neel Optometrist, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch, has continued their 2019 outreach initiative program at the Rietenbosch Primary in Stellenbosch. Learners come from surrounding communities and farms that are challenged with drug abuse, gang violence, poverty and unemployment to name a few. In total, we screened 151 children at Rietenbosch Primary school.
Pieter Langeveldt Primary
Van Neel Optometrist, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch, has started their 2020 outreach initiative program at Pieter Langeveldt Primary in Stellenbosch. Due to the Covid-19 Global Pandemic, we could not screen all the grades, so we concentrated on the Grade 6 and 7 students that will leave the school soon and go to secondary schools that are more challenging.
Cloetesville Secondary
Van Neel Optometrist, in partnership with the Cloetesville Secondary School, has continued their 2020 outreach initiative program at the Cloetesville Secondary in Stellenbosch. We screened 52 children and identified about 30 children that needed eye tests, of whom 20 came for their eye tests and we made 18 spectacles in total.
